London 1668. Women have acted on the stage for 8 years. Escaping from the Bawdy House Riots, Alice Barrie is rushed to the safety of the theatre and is quickly taken under the wing of esteemed actress Mary Betterton. However, while Alice eagerly rehearses in the wings, all is not as it should be. While King Charles II may champion their success, there are critics who are appalled at such an elevation and what it could mean for the country as a whole.  

Actress is a new play by Marie Gearing. Featuring a cast of local professional actors and directed by Francesca Woods, the play asks its audience to consider how much has really changed.
